Retired Department of Army and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel.
B.A. in Communications and Journalism from Kent State University.
Married to Mary Ellen Johnson and have 3 sons, daughter, 7 granddaughters, one grandson.
I retired from Fort Leonard Wood in May 2017 and moved to Moberly in 2019. I enjoy woodworking, reading, theater and gardening/yardwork. I am a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Legion and attend services at Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly.
I respect the voice of the voters and will fight to ensure their opinions will be heard.
Everyone can voice their opinion of the government in a peaceful manner. Retaliation against peaceful protests, stated opinions and voting choices has no place in our society.
I own guns and I am a member of the National Rifle Association. I am yet to see a law or a study on gun violence that can truly quantify a reduction in shootings. I am open minded on the subject, but as the saying goes in Missouri, “Show me.”
This issue was already settled by the voters of Missouri. The Republicans want to overturn this referendum and return to the days of back-alley abortions. I can’t think of a more difficult choice, but if the decision is made, let it be conducted under qualified medical personnel. Right to Life and Choice are very personal matters and I respect everyone’s opinion on the matter.
I’ve seen a lot and done a lot in my life. Some events and career choices have molded me into who I am today.
I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through Army ROTC in 1979. I served at Fort Knox, Fort Polk (now Fort Johnson), Fulda, Germany, Fort Monroe, and Berlin, Germany. I served 13 years active duty and 15 years in the Army Reserves. I was in Operations Desert Storm, Provide Comfort, Iraqi Freedom and Peacekeeping in Bosnia. I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years of commissioned service.
I began my transition from military to civilian with roles in local newspapers. I was employed in marketing, news editor, publishing and advertising sales in multiple publications. Taking my newspaper and military experience with me, I transitioned to become a Department of Army Public Affairs Officer. My last role was Deputy Installation Public Affairs at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I retired in 2017.
I enjoy woodworking, live theater and being on stage, gardening and lawn work. I dabble with cooking and actually make a very good apple pie from scratch. I enjoy reading but would rather do things with my hands
I am a member of the United Methodist Church. I attend service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly. The Church plays a very large part in my life and as I have grown older, its significance has increased.
I like to volunteer with community services. I have volunteered at the Truman Veterans Hospital and at the local Community Kitchen. I have used my woodworking skills to create Little Free Libraries within the community. I assist my wife during our Shower Outreach Ministry at our church to aid those without adequate water or homeless. During the winter, I offer my time to the Warming Shelter on those cold Missouri winter nights.
